Almost 800,000 of 5.9 mln IDPs want to stay in new places of residence – Reintegration Ministry

KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of the end of 2022, there are 5.9 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine, the Ministry for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine has said on its website on Tuesday.

At the same time, around 680,000 citizens left their homes over the past month, 40% of fled from the eastern regions of the country and 25% – from the southern, the ministry said referring to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Despite the fact that, according to a poll conducted by the General Population Survey, only 7% of Ukrainians consider a possibility of moving from their places of permanent residence, more than 785,000 IDPs said they planned to stay in the communities that hosted them and settle in a new place.

"The government does not cease to provide the IDPs with assistance. More than UAH 47 billion has been paid in assistance for living since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The ministry’s priority for 2023 is to double the total amount of international assistance for the IDPs," it said.
