Part of Russian servicemen in Belarus to be sent to Donbas in coming weeks – Border Guard Service

KYIV. Jan 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Currently there are up to 10,500 Russian servicemen in the territory of Belarus, a part of whom will be sent to Russia and after that to Donbas in the coming two weeks, Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Serhiy Deineko has said.

"We monitor the situation in the territory of Belarus. We realize that the so-called union state, which has been providing the aggressor state with all kinds of assistance from the first days of the war, […] can provide assistance in the form of supporting a repeated attack on the territory of our state at any moment," he said on air of the national telethon on Wednesday.

Deineko emphasized that no signs of creating offensive groups in Belarus have been registered as of today.

According to him, the total number of troops, which are staying in the territory of Belaris, mainly at the training grounds in Vitebsk region, is estimated at 10,200 to 10,500 servicemen.

"We have got information that a part of these servicemen will be moved to Russia and after that transferred to the area of hostilities in Donbas in the coming two weeks. However, they will be replaced with a part of military from the 3rd Army Corps of the 6th Motorized Rifle Division," Deineko said.

The territory of Belarus is currently used for combat coordination of Russian troops.

At the same time, he said. The enemy should not be underestimated. The threat exists, but it cannot be described as "real and critical."

"In my estimations, in January, the troops of the united ally state will be unable to try to carry out a repeated offensive on Ukraine," the head of the State Border Guard Service said.
