Cabinet creates National Commission on Crimean Tatar language

KYIV. Jan 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has created the National Commission on the Crimean Tatar language.

As representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk said in Telegram, the decision was made at a government meeting on Friday.

In particular, the decision approved the composition of the commission and its regulations.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereschuk will co-chair the National Commission.

It is noted that the Commission was created to implement the Strategy for the Development of the Crimean Tatar Language for 2022-2032. "This consultative and advisory agency will function as part of representatives of the involved public agencies, as well as the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and linguists from scientific and educational institutions," the ministry said.

The key task of the National Commission is to preserve the Crimean Tatar language, which is classified by UNESCO as one of the languages in need of protection, as well as to promote the coordination of actions of central and local executive authorities on institutional, organizational and information support for the functioning of the Crimean Tatar language.
