Zelensky: It is essential that prayer for Ukraine heard in Lavra

KYIV. Jan 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted the importance of the fact that a prayer for Ukraine was heard in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on January 7.

"Once again, Merry Christmas to all those celebrating today. On this day, which has already become historical for Ukraine, for the spiritual independence of our people. Today I was glad to see how many people, how many of our soldiers came to worship at Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Church – that holy place, which is one of the origins of the Ukrainian cultural tradition," he said in a video statement on Saturday, January 7.

It is very important, he said, that "a sincere prayer for Ukraine has been and will be heard today in Lavra and that no one will make Ukrainian a stranger in Lavra anymore."

"Ukrainian independence must be strong in all its elements and will remain so. Always. We provide it with you. And it is very important to continue to cherish the mood that was felt today. The mood of joy from strengthening and from finding historical justice. I wish all Ukrainians and Ukrainian women that we have such a mood more often," the president said.

On Sunday, the service of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine took place in Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra for the first time.
