By KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine and Senegal will continue developing relations in the area of supplies of Ukrainian foodstuffs, and in addition to the memorandum of understanding signed on January 9 in the field of agriculture, an agreement on future negotiations between representatives of the two countries at the highest level was reached.
The results of the trip of the delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine to Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria were presented by Minister Mykola Solsky at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.
"Meetings took place in Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria. These countries constantly take a lot of food and especially wheat. These are large markets in terms of population compared to the European market or many other countries: not with such purchasing power, but it is large and develops, therefore it needs to be monitored," the minister said.
He also said that each of the countries he visited is interested in developing cooperation with Ukraine and is ready to expand its ports to intensify the unloading and storage of Ukrainian grain.
Solsky said that after the visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy to Africa, the Ukrainian authorities will hold an additional meeting on the possibilities of developing relations with the countries visited. According to him, the traditional presence of Russia in the diplomatic field of Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria complicates joint projects.
"At an unofficial level, representatives of all the countries with whom we spoke understand what is happening in Ukraine [the full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation]. Unfortunately, at an official level, they are not always ready to declare this. Therefore, such trips lead to the development of relations and they will gradually improve them," the minister said.
As reported, a delegation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy during a trip to African countries signed a memorandum of cooperation with Senegal in the field of agriculture. In addition, Ukraine will supply 25,000 tonnes of grain to Nigeria in the coming months as part of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative.
