KYIV. May 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori conveyed to Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko a message on the upcoming cooperation between departments from the head of the National Security Commission and the General of the National Police of Japan, the National Police of Ukraine press service said on Thursday.
The parties also discussed ways to support Ukraine, in particular, in the area of humanitarian demining of Ukraine. According to the Ambassador of Japan, last week official Tokyo handed over the necessary equipment to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for demining de-occupied territories.
“This is our principled position and policy regarding humanitarian demining. This is the highest priority not only this and next year, but for many years to come. We are ready to work with you in this area. For our part, we are well aware that in order to it will take a lot of time to clear the territory of Ukraine, and we are ready for this support from our side,” Kuninori said.
According to him, Japan is ready to continue to provide Ukraine with equipment and vehicles to resolve this issue. In addition, official Tokyo is considering the possibility of sending its own specialists to Ukraine.
The second area of cooperation between Ukraine and Japan is the identification of the bodies of the killed as part of the investigation of Russian war crimes.
Kuninori said over 20 mobile DNA laboratories have already been provided to Ukraine. In addition, Japan is ready to accept Ukrainian specialists this summer for training in this area. The Japanese police also plans to provide Ukraine with specialized vehicles and equipment.
