EU permanent reps to discuss EC proposals on 11th package of Russia-related sanctions on May 10 – media

KYIV. May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The permanent representatives of the EU member states are expected to hold a meeting next week to discuss proposals for the 11th package of sanctions against Russia, Politico said on Friday, citing sources.

It is expected that in the coming days the European Commission will announce its proposals for new anti-Russian measures, and diplomats will consider them on Wednesday, May 10.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the 11th package of sanctions against Russia will mainly be aimed at preventing circumvention of existing restrictions.

At the same time, in the middle of April, The Financial Times, citing sources, wrote that the EU does not rule out blocking further attempts to expand the range of sanctions against Russia to new sectors of the economy by those EU members for whom these areas are vital. According to the sources of the newspaper, it is likely that now the new sanctions can be “limited to expanding the list of individuals whose assets will be frozen and subject to travel restrictions.”

In the EU, the approval of sanctions requires the consent of all member countries of this integration association.
