May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Employees of the Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv region, under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office, have detained a citizen of Chile who actively supported Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine on his Telegram and YouTube channels.
“The 55-year-old man was notified of suspicion for repeatedly making and distributing the materials that justify, recognize lawful, deny armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine (Parts 2, 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the press service of Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office said.
According to the investigation, the citizen of Chile, who has been living in Kharkiv for several years, actively supported Russia’s actions on his Telegram and YouTube channels with more than 300,000 subscribers.
The foreign video blogger posted messages and filmed videos stating that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is “one of the most brilliant invasions in modern history”, denied the mass killings of civilians by the Russian Armed Forces and Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. At the same time, the suspect accused the Ukrainian military of constant shelling of Donbas since 2014. In addition, the foreigner took part in news programs on Russian TV channels via video link as an eyewitness who is in Ukraine and “sees everything with his own eyes.” Russian journalists called him “an independent observer and a courageous person who shows the truth of what is happening on the territory of Ukraine from the first day of the special operation.”
According to experts, the text and video materials of the foreign blogger contain information about support, approval, justification and denial of the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine, as well as support for the occupation of part of the territory of Ukraine.
The suspect was given a measure of restraint in the form of detention.
According to media reports, the name of the detainee is Gonzalo Lira.
