KYIV. May 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has arrived in Kyiv on the occasion of Day of Europe.
“Good to be back in Kyiv. Where the values we hold dear are defended everyday. So it is such a fitting place to celebrate the day of Europe,” she wrote on the Twitter microblog on Tuesday morning.
She noted that she welcomes the decision of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy “to make May 9 the Day of Europe here in Ukraine.”
As reported, Zelenskyy submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes to establish May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II 1939-1945, and signed a decree on celebrating the Day of Europe on May 9.
