Belgium to allocate EUR 92 mln to Ukraine from taxes on seized Russian assets

KYIV. May 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Belgian government has announced the approval of a new EUR 92 million aid package to Ukraine, financed through taxes on Russian assets frozen in the country, local media reported.

Half of this amount is for military aid, including the supply of armored vehicles, weapons and ammunition. In addition, EUR 46 million will be directed “to support the population of Ukraine and to strengthen the Belgian diplomatic presence.”

At the end of March, the Belgian government announced that it would use the proceeds from the taxation of Russian assets frozen in the country to directly support Ukraine, as well as to integrate Ukrainians in Belgium. At that time, the amount of about EUR 625 million was mentioned.
