Some 31 Abrams tanks arrive in Germany to train Ukrainian military – media

KYIV. May 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Some 31 American M1A1 Abrams tanks have arrived in the German city of Bremerhaven to train the Ukrainian military, Sky News reports.

“U.S. Abrams tanks needed for training Ukrainian forces have arrived in Germany slightly ahead of schedule. They are now on their way to the Grafenwoehr army base, where the training will begin in two to three weeks, U.S. officials said,” the report notes.

It is noted that U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin told the Senate appropriations defence subcommittee that the U.S. had moved “a number of tanks over into theatre” so the Ukrainians could begin training on them.

By the time they complete their training, which is expected to last about 10 weeks, Abrams tanks, which are being built for Ukrainian forces, will be ready, he said.

As reported earlier, Austin said that Abrams tanks would be delivered to Ukraine in early autumn.
