1,658 Ukrainian carriers to receive ECMT permits in 2023 – deputy minister

KYIV. Dec 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Permits from the ECMT (the European Conference of Ministers of Transport) for 2023 will be provided to 1,658 Ukrainian carriers who have previously submitted their electronic questionnaires for the competition in the Shliakh system, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Mustafa Nayyem said.

"In particular, the competition commission for 2023 approved the following proportion – 2,750 permits of the Euro-5 environmental category and 2,800 permits of the Euro-6 category," he wrote on his Facebook page.

The deputy minister pointed out that in order to obtain permits carriers need to apply for ECMT permits using the Shliakh system by January 2 inclusive, then check the status of the application in their personal account and receive permits after changing the status to "Ready for Issue."

The deputy minister of infrastructure noted that, if necessary, the deadline for accepting applications in the system could be extended.

ECMT permits are required for carriers operating trips to 52 ECMT member countries, and allow not only bilateral and transit transportation of goods, but also their transportation from third countries.

Earlier this year, Ukraine signed a one-year visa-free transportation agreement with the EU, which, from July 1, allowed only bilateral and transit traffic to 27 European countries without special permits.

Last year, 1,943 carriers applied for the competition. The total number of licensed international carriers at the beginning of the war in Ukraine was over 5,500, but after the simplification of licensing, by August 23, it increased by another 5,595.
