Around 500,000 Ukrainian schoolchildren staying abroad – Shkarlet

KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of January 3, 2023, around 500,000 Ukrainian children of school age are staying abroad, Education and Science Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet has said.

"Today, around 500,000 children of school age, who attend general secondary education institutions, are staying abroad," he said on air of the national telethon on Tuesday.

The minister recalled that at the beginning of the full-scale invasion there were 650,000-690,000 Ukrainian children under 18 years old abroad, in September their number was 488,000, in December – 480,000-520,000.

According to the minister, parents do not massively withdraw such children’s documents from Ukrainian schools.
