BAKU. May 11 (Interfax) – Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizada has confirmed the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the trilateral meeting with European Council President Charles Michel and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels on May 14, but said that no final decision has been made with regard to the meeting in Chisinau on June 1.
“The Azerbaijani side has given its consent to the meeting [of the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders] in Brussels on May 14 at the initiative and with the participation of European Council President Charles Michel, which did not take place last year because of the Armenian side’s refusal to meet in the Brussels format,” Hajizada said in a commentary.
According to him, Baku affirmed the possibility of Azerbaijan’s participation in the informal meeting in Chisinau [with the participation of the French president and the German federal chancellor] on June 1 if it does not substitute or alter the Brussels format. “At the same time, considering that the details of said meeting are being withheld, the final consent to attendance of the Chisinau meeting has yet to be given,” Hajizada said.
