Borrell hopes Hungary to unblock EUR 500 mln of military aid to Ukraine

BRUSSELS. Nov 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, hopes that after negotiations between Hungary and Ukraine, the issue of Budapest blocking the eighth tranche of military aid in the amount of EUR 500 million euros will be resolved.

“The Hungarian Minister (of Defense) explained to us that today there will be a new meeting with Ukrainians in order to try to unblock the payment of the eighth tranche. There are possibilities that it will finally be unlocked. Other solutions are not on the table. We vote with unity, and we need unity. Let’s hope that there will be a solution,” he said at a press conference after the meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs at the level of defense ministers in Brussels on Tuesday.

He also claims that the idea to provide the EU Peace Facility with special financing for Ukraine for the next four years in the amount of EUR 20 billion is “still alive.”
