BRUSSELS. Nov 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell does not rule out that in order to achieve the goal of supplying Ukraine with 1 million ammunition by March 2024, ammunition produced in the EU for export to third countries will be redirected to Ukraine.
At a press conference in Brussels on Monday, which took place after the meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs, Borrell confirmed that the EU continues to pursue the goal of supplying Ukraine with the designated amount of ammunition.
He recalled that the EU is “trying to get this target through three lines.” Among them, the High Representative pointed to 300,000 ammunition already delivered from existing stocks. Now the weight is increasing production capacity.
“We continue having this target. Maybe we will not reach it by the end of the year, but it will depend on how quickly the contracts will be implemented … Europe is exporting quite an important amount of its production. So, part of what we produce, we export it to third countries. One solution would be to direct these exports to Ukraine as a priority,” Borrell said.
