Cabinet proposes to suspend consideration of applications of Russian, Belarusian citizens on status of foreign Ukrainian for period of martial law

KYIV. Oct 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine proposes to the Verkhovna Rada to suspend the consideration of applications of citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus for granting the status of a foreign Ukrainian by the National Commission on Foreign Ukrainians for the period of martial law.

At a government meeting on Tuesday, the draft law “On Amendments to the law ‘On Foreign Ukrainians’” was approved, which, when considering applications for granting, refusal or termination of the status of a foreign Ukrainian, it is proposed to amend the conditions and procedure for granting the status of a foreign Ukrainian, representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk said on Telegram.

Thus, it is proposed to grant the National Commission on Foreign Ukrainians the right to apply to the Security Service of Ukraine, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine and the central executive authority of Ukraine, which implements state policy in the field of protection of the state border and protection of sovereign rights of Ukraine in its exclusive (maritime) economic zone, to obtain information about the presence or absence of committed by the applicant actions contrary to the national security and national interests of Ukraine.

The draft law also proposes to suspend the consideration by the National Commission of applications of citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus for granting the status of a foreign Ukrainian for the period of the legal regime of martial law in Ukraine and within 90 days from the date of its termination or cancellation and to expand the list of grounds for refusal to grant the status of a foreign Ukrainian.
