KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided to send instructors to train Ukrainian sappers engaged in clearing mines laid by Russian occupiers during their full-scale invasion of Ukraine, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing the country’s Foreign Ministry.
It says that Cambodia has become one of the most heavily mined countries in the world during the nearly three decades of war that ended in 1998, which created a great risk for the civilian population, especially in rural areas. Since then, a large number of mines and other unexploded ordnance have been removed and destroyed, which has significantly reduced the number of victims.
It clarifies that Cambodian sappers have become one of the most experienced in the world, and over the past decade several thousand of them have been sent under the auspices of the United Nations to work in Africa and the Middle East.
