KYIV. Dec 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – One person died and three were hospitalized with injuries sustained as a result of the collapse of a retaining wall on Liuteranska Street in Kyiv downtown on Monday, the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reports.

“On December 11, 2023, during the construction work on the overhaul of the retaining wall on Liuteranska Street, a structural collapse occurred. As a result of the injuries, one of the workers died on the spot, and three more were hospitalized,” the report says.

Under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, a pretrial investigation has been launched in criminal proceedings into a violation of safety rules during work with increased danger that caused the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). As part of the proceedings, investigative actions are continuing to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

Earlier it was reported about one dead and one injured as a result of a collapse during the repair work of a support wall to hold the soil in Pechersk district of Kyiv.

As can be seen from the photos from the scene, the incident occurred on the site on Liuteranska Street between houses No. 3 and No. 7/10, 100 meters from Khreschatyk. There is no capital structure on it, the adjacent territory of neighboring houses is located and green spaces are growing, while the ground level on the site is 1-2 meters above the road. The site was separated from the street by a brick retaining wall with a metal fence, which collapsed directly onto the sidewalk.
