KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A case has been sent to court on charges of the commanders of the Russian army units from the Chechen Republic who organized the invasion of Kyiv region, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has reported.
"Prosecutors have sent indictments to the court against the deputy head of the Department of the Federal Service of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation for the Chechen Republic, as well as against the commander of the 249th separate motorized battalion South of one of the brigades of the North Caucasus District of the National Guard troops of the Russian Federation," the Prosecutor General’s Office said on the Telegram channel on Wednesday.
According to the prosecutor’s office, a pretrial investigation found that in March 2022, under the leadership of one of the accused, the Russian military from Chechnya attacked and seized Borodiansky psycho-neurological boarding school.
"Patients and staff of the medical institution were not given the opportunity to leave, deprived of food and water. Multiple rocket launchers were placed near the boarding school, from which attacks were carried out on nearby settlements and positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Patients and staff were used as a ‘human shield,’" the message says.
Another accused, according to the prosecutor’s office, during February-March 2022, kept civilians in inhumane conditions in the basements of houses in the town of Hostomel of Kyiv region, used them as a "human shield" to cover military operations against the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The message clarifies that the accused are charged with violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
