By KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko (the Servant of the People faction) has initiated the creation of an inter-faction union Free Ichkeria.
"I have initiated the creation of an inter-faction union of people’s deputies Free Ichkeria. I am inviting all colleagues to join in this union," he said on Facebook on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the union recognizes sovereignty of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, considers it as the territory occupied by Russia and welcomes its de-occupation and return to independence.
"The inter-faction union does not recognize the criminal authorities led by Ramzan Kadyrov as legal, condemns his crimes against the Chechen and Ukrainian peoples […], respects the aspiration of the Chechen people to independence, recognizes its right to self-determination and development beyond Russia," it said.
