De-occupied part of Kherson region is 70% ready for winter – Prokudin

KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The de-occupied part of Kherson region is prepared for winter and the upcoming heating season by 70%, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Prokudin has said.

“The central heating system remains today only in Kherson. I am talking about the de-occupied parts of Kherson region. Only four enterprises provide heating services here. We have protected these enterprises because they have been regularly shelled. The heat networks have been restored by 100%. Currently, we are restoring electric equipment and checking the networks. In general, we are 70% ready for winter,” he said in an exclusive interview with the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency.

Prokudin also said the local authorities will do their best to ensure that Kherson is supplied with heating.

At the same time, the head of the regional administration pointed at “a big problem” with timber harvesting and preparation of any heating materials in the region’s villages.

“Some UAH 1.4 billion is necessary to cover people’s need for firewood. At the same time, the equipment of a perfect heating system in Kherson, which we had been trying to do before the war, requires around UAH 1.2 billion, including a complete replacement of the destroyed pipes, because there were a lot of strikes, and some of our boiler rooms and heating units were burnt down,” Prokudin said.
