By KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says the continuation of the decentralization reform provides for the introduction of the institution of prefects.
"Continuing the decentralization reform. We are talking about the introduction of the institution of prefects – officials exercising administrative supervision in the field. Prefects are non-political persons who will represent the state and monitor the constitutionality of local decisions," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Tuesday.
According to him, the best European experience, which has proven its effectiveness, is taken as a sample of the Ukrainian model.
"After the end of martial law, amendments to the Constitution are also relevant, which finalize the decentralization reform. As a result, we will get a balanced, efficient and European system of governance with wealthy communities," he said.
