KYIV. Nov 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov suggested that businesses that are ready to share access to alternative sources of electricity with telecom operators should contact the ministry on this issue.
"For example, you are a head of a shopping or office center and you use a stationary industrial generator. Operators can connect a base station to it nearby. Then, during a blackout around, residents will be able to call relatives or emergency services. If you are ready to share the generator with mobile operators, please write to this mail hello@thedigital.gov.ua," he wrote on his Telegram channel on Thursday.
Fedorov pointed out that the generators help mobile operators to work during the blackout so that people are in touch, but their existing number is not enough to provide each base station with backup power.
"In order to solve this, we can join forces with other businesses operating nearby," the deputy premier emphasized.
As reported, the electricity supplier company YASNO notes the absence of autonomous power supplies on many communication antennas of mobile operators.
The operator lifecell notes that the duration of equipment operation during large-scale power outages depends on the ability to provide regular fuel supply. At the same time, it specified that one base station powered by the generator consumes 100 liters of fuel per day.
Kyivstar is working on alternative options for powering base stations during a power outage, now it is enough for 20% of the operator’s network in large cities during a long blackout.
