EU leaders approve economic package including EUR 18 bln of macro-financial aid for Ukraine in 2023

BRUSSELS. Dec 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The leaders of the European Union approved a four-part economic package, which includes a compromise on the allocation of EUR 18 billion of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023.

The Czech Presidency said this on its Twitter page after the European Council meeting on Thursday.

"Megadeal confirmed! EU member states approved a compromise on EUR 18 billion for Ukraine, minimum tax for big corporations, Hungary’s RRP and budgetary conditionality. Written procedure has now concluded. The Czech presidency delivers right up to the last minute!" Czech Presidency said.

As it is known, the European Council approved the allocation of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine on December 10, providing for two options for guarantees for this borrowing – either they will be provided from the EU budget, or by member states. Moreover, initially the European Commission proposed to allocate macro-financial aid to Ukraine in the format in which funding is allocated to EU member states, when guarantees are covered from the EU budget. This was opposed by Hungary, in connection with which the EC proposed a compromise. On Wednesday, December 14, the decision to allocate EUR 18 billion of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine was approved by the European Parliament.
