European Commission edits video statement of von der Leyen deleting number of deaths in Ukraine

BRUSSELS. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In the new version of the video statement of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the previously announced figures of civilian and military deaths during the full-scale Russian aggression in Ukraine are missing.

A new, edited version of the statement posted on Twitter suggesting a specialised court for the Russian Federation, as well as using frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine, came about half an hour after the original video was released. The new version does not contain the sentence "It is estimated that more than 20,000 civilians and 100,000 Ukrainian military officers have been killed so far," and the cut is visible on the video.

There are currently no explanations from the European Commission.

The representative of the President of Ukraine, Serhiy Nikiforov, in a comment to Suspilne, noted that only the commander-in-chief, the minister of defense or the supreme commander-in-chief of Ukraine should voice reliable information about losses. He added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will release official data "when the moment is right," as it is sensitive information.
