European Commission proposes to Council to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians for another year

BRUSSELS. Sept 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Commission proposes to the European Council to extend the temporary protection mechanism for Ukrainians fleeing the war waged by Russia for another year – until March 2025.

The corresponding announcement in Brussels on Tuesday was made by representative of the European Commission Anitta Hipper. “The European Commission is proposing today to further extend the temporary protection for people fleeing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine from 4 March 2024 to 3 March 2025. For as long as it takes, the European Union will stand by Ukraine,” she said.

Hipper recalled that this mechanism was activated a week after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “Member States showed unprecedented solidarity with Ukrainian people, not only by welcoming them in their countries,” the EC representative stressed.
