KYIV. Nov 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – From November 1, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has significantly reduced the delivery time for equipment and weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so new domestically produced weapons will reach the front faster.
As reported on the website of the Ministry of Defense, during martial law the production cycle is shortened and the testing process is simplified, which “significantly frees up the hands of manufacturers.” So, now it is the manufacturer who determines what technical parameters he will use to deliver products to the customer, and the military agrees on a list of parameters (previously, the military prescribed a significant list of these parameters in the technical specifications).
“We have canceled excessive testing of weapons that is not related to confirming their combat effectiveness, reduced the number of various checks at different stages of production, leaving only the most appropriate ones, and we are simplifying the mechanisms for supplying weapons and equipment to the troops,” Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk emphasized.
The introduced changes will also allow troops to receive new types of weapons and military equipment faster. Previously, for example, in order to ensure a guaranteed shelf life (for weapons this is 10 years), a new model of weapons and military equipment had to undergo accelerated climatic tests for six months, and sometimes even a year, to determine whether it would be operational within 10 years.
“This requirement is now being lifted. Indeed, in many cases the manufacturer clearly understands that there is no need to store this sample for 10 years, because it goes straight from the assembly line to the front. Consequently, these shelf life characteristics do not in any way affect the quality of implementation of the standard,” the department explained.
It is also emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense will insist on confirmation of only three factors: the effectiveness of the equipment model, its safety for personnel and reliability in operation. The manufacturer assumes full responsibility for the quality of manufactured weapons, the scope of necessary tests and all risks associated with the supply of these weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
