Georgia buys Buk, Javelin systems for itself – Ministry of Defense

KYIV. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Defense of Georgia clarified Tbilisi’s position regarding the Buk air defense and Javelin anti-tank systems requested by Ukraine: the Georgian government purchased these systems for its country.

"With this multimillion-dollar purchase, the Buk system was received by the defense ministry (of Georgia) in 2007. This was carried out under a secret contract, so we cannot clarify in more detail. We explain to the population that the defense ministry also paid tens of millions of dollars in 2017 for acquisition of Javelin anti-tank systems from the United States," the Georgian Ministry of Defense reports on its official Facebook page.

At the same time, the report emphasizes that "Georgia firmly continues to provide humanitarian and political support to Ukraine thanks to the opportunities in its hands. A clear confirmation of this is the humanitarian cargo sent in tonnes, including generators purchased and transferred to Ukraine at the initiative of the Prime Minister."

"As for the transfer of weapons or dual-use assets to Ukraine, the Georgian government has repeatedly expressed a clear position on this issue," the Georgian ministry summed up.
