Govt allocates over UAH 1.2 trln for defense and security during war – Shmyhal

KYIV. Dec 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated more than UAH 1.2 trillion for the financing of security and defense during the war, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

"Next year, just that same as this year, the development of a strong army will be the main task of the government. The resources we spent in 2022 and budgeted for 2023 clearly demonstrate this. During the full-scale war, the government allocated more than UAH 1.2 trillion for security and defense," he said at this year’s last meeting of the government on Friday.

The prime minister also said that payments to all military were significantly increased this year.

Also, more than UAH 250 billion were allocated for the procurement and modernization of weapons and equipment.

"New mechanisms to support security of Ukraine have been created and are actively working, the Rammstein format, which brought together 50 countries, is in a key place. A number of long-term contracts for the production of weapons for Ukraine, which will be financed by the governments of the United States, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway and our other partner countries over the next two to three years, were concluded," he said.

Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine actively continues to produce its own weapons.

"We have applied for NATO membership. We are introducing the best Alliance standards in logistics, planning and reporting. The Ukrainian army, without exaggeration, is now one of the strongest in Europe and the world. And our army will bring us victory. And we will work to ensure that it is provided in the best possible way," he said.
