KYIV. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Law enforcement officers reported suspicion and placed in custody three citizens who were planning to commit terrorist acts in Kyiv region, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) reported.
“Under the procedural guidance of the PGO, three citizens of Ukraine were informed of suspicion of creating a terrorist group and participation in it, illegal production of explosives committed by an organized group (Part 1 of Article 258-3, Part 3 of Article 263-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ),” the PGO said in a message posted on its Telegram channel on Wednesday.
The suspects reportedly formed a group in April 2023 and acted at the behest of Russian intelligence services. “They planned to carry out a number of terrorist attacks on the territory of Kyiv and Kyiv region. Adhering to the conditions of secrecy, the suspects purchased components to produce explosives and weapons to destroy military and critical infrastructure,” the report says of details in the case.
During searches in Kyiv and Chernihiv, at the place of registration and temporary residence of the suspects, weapons, ammunition, grenades and other explosive devices, laboratory equipment and chemicals necessary for the manufacture of homemade explosives and devices, components for the manufacture of drones, mobile terminals and so on were seized.
The suspects were chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention. The pretrial investigation was conducted by the Main Investigation Directorate of the SBU, operational support – by the Counterintelligence Department of the SBU.
