KYIV. Dec 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The majority (60%) of Ukrainian students have already used artificial intelligence (AI) services to prepare homework, and 40% have used them in class, according to the results of a study by Factum Group Ukraine with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
“Schoolchildren who took part in the survey demonstrated a higher level of awareness of AI and its use in the educational process than teachers. Some 91% of the surveyed schoolchildren know about AI services, and 85% have used them at least once, a third of them do this at least weekly. Six out of ten students have already used AI services to prepare homework. Also, approximately 40% note that they used AI in their work in class (in particular, to complete independent work),” the ministry’s press service said in a statement.
It is noted that in separate questionnaires, children anonymously admitted that they use AI tools to cheat, mainly to prepare assignments in the humanities.
“Compared to others, this goal of using AI ranks last among students in popularity. In addition, some children explain that artificial intelligence helps generate text headings or ideas that they later use for their own creative work,” the ministry said.
In particular, AI helps during note-taking and clarification of data missed during the lesson, which, according to children, significantly saves their time.
In addition to learning, students use AI to organize information, self-development, and search for ideas.
The all-Ukrainian study was conducted by Projector Creative & Tech Institute and the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with the support of the research company Factum Group Ukraine. The survey was conducted online and continued throughout September-October 2023. More than 3,000 Ukrainians took part in it, among them 1,747 teachers and 1,443 schoolchildren (students of grades 8-11).
