KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Information reports about allegedly shot down Russian X-22 supersonic missiles earlier were erroneous, due to the prompt submission of information, another type of missile was mistaken for this one, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel Yuriy Ihnat said.
"I have been talking about this for half a year already, that we cannot shoot down X-22 missiles. This is a supersonic missile, the speed of 4,000 km per hour in flight. We have no means capable of intercepting this missile in the air. But we are not without sin either: in some news reports, it was reported that someone shot it down somewhere, they probably took another missile for this one. It happens. There were several messages, and propaganda picked them up," he said on the air of the national telethon on Sunday morning.
Ihnat stressed that there are moments of inaccuracies, as information is provided quickly.
The speaker recalled that in the evening, the Commander of the Air Force of Ukraine in his address clearly explained which air targets are shot down by the Ukrainian forces, and asked everyone to be careful with comments about the work of Ukrainian air defense.
"You see what is happening in Dnipro, Russian propaganda skillfully uses the statements of any people related to the authorities and other people to wage an information war against us," he added.
Earlier, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not have weapons capable of shooting down the X-22 type of missiles.
"Since the beginning of Russia’s military aggression, more than 210 missiles of this type have been fired on the territory of Ukraine. Not a single one was shot down by air defense means," the statement said.
