Issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO cannot be removed from agenda – Nauseda

LVIV. Jan 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda notes the importance of advancing Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration process.

"Today the war continues. And the territorial integrity of Ukraine is being violated. First you need to restore it. At the same time, Ukraine’s membership in NATO cannot be removed from the agenda. We must agree on algorithms and formulas that we will use to move forward in this aspect," Nauseda said at a press conference with the presidents of Ukraine and Poland in Lviv.

He stressed that Lithuania, for its part, is doing everything possible so that Ukraine can use the principle of "open doors", which was voiced at the Bucharest NATO summit in 2008.

"After 14 years, there is no progress in Ukraine. And that is why we talked today [with the President of Ukraine and Poland] about security guarantees that could be provided to Ukraine at the next NATO summit. So that Ukraine feels safer and feels supported by NATO. And so that we can talk about political cooperation between Ukraine and NATO," the Lithuanian president said.

He also expressed the wish that such meetings of the heads of state of the Lublin Triangle would become another evidence of political cooperation and the will of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania.

"At such meetings, we could exchange information and talk about achievements, in particular, in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration," Nauseda concluded.
