Kazakhstan could boost oil supplies via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan – KazTransOil

ASTANA. May 25 (Interfax) – Kazakhstan could boost oil supplies via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, provided the quality of crude changes, KazTransOil Deputy General Director for Transportation Erik Sagiyev told journalists on Wednesday.

Sagiyev specified that owing to the so-called bottleneck in the BTC system, the pumping of Kazakh heavy oil is complicated given its quality.

The issue regarding the quality bank arises owing to exclusively Azerbaijani light oil, which differs from the quality of Kazakh oil, being pumped through the BTC system, Sagiyev said.

Sagiyev reminded that Kazakhstan received a quota of 1.5 million for 2023 for the BTC system, and Tengizchevroil’s resources are currently shipped as part of Kazakh oil.
