KYIV. May 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin discussed with Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who is also the Prosecutor General of Poland, the provision of expert assistance by the Polish side, including 3D scanning of the destruction of civilian infrastructure and help in conducting examinations, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has said.
During a visit to Warsaw, Kostin once again expressed gratitude to the Polish people for their support from the first minutes of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, it said on the Telegram channel on Thursday.
“We deeply respect and appreciate the fact that Poland has always been and is a reliable partner and friend for our country, and that you were one of the first to lend a hand of professional assistance and take the initiative in creating a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the crime of aggression and war crimes on the territory of Ukraine,” Kostin was quoted as saying.
Kostin thanked for the adoption by the Sejm on April 15, 2023 of a resolution to support the creation of a Special Tribunal for the Russian Federation for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, as well as for support in the creation and future work of the International Center for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression (ICPA), which will start operating in The Hague this summer.
According to the statement, Poland plans to delegate a prosecutor to work in the ICPA.
“The prosecutors general noted the high level of international legal cooperation between the countries. They discussed the provision of expert assistance by the Polish side, including with 3D scanning of the destruction of civilian infrastructure. As well as assistance with expert examinations,” the PGO said.
The Polish Prosecutor General assured that Poland supported and will continue to support Ukraine in its aspiration towards restoring justice and bringing the aggressor to justice.
He also said that Polish law enforcement officers continue to interrogate witnesses of war crimes – citizens of Ukraine who left and are on the territory of Poland, their testimony will be attached to the investigation materials.
“More than 1,700 citizens have already been interrogated,” the PGO said.
