KYIV. Dec 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A cyberattack on the network of the largest Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar partially destroyed the company’s IT infrastructure, company president Oleksandr Komarov said on the air of the national telethon on Tuesday.
“A very powerful hacker attack on the intellectual infrastructure of the company, partially destroyed the IT infrastructure. Therefore, we are currently working on the question of how long the recovery will take. We have not made any statements yet,” he explained.
Komarov noted that the purpose of this attack was to destroy Kyivstar’s IT infrastructure as much as possible.
“And I will say this, they have partially achieved this goal,” Komarov said.
Earlier, Kyivstar assured that as a result of the hacker attack, the customers’ data was not compromised.
As reported, Kyivstar is working to eliminate the consequences of a powerful cyberattack, as a result of which the company’s customers do not have access to the Internet and cannot use communication services.
The Security Service of Ukraine announced the opening of criminal proceedings on the facts of the cyberattack on Kyivstar. One of the versions that investigators are currently studying is that the special services of the Russian Federation may be behind this hacker attack.
