Mayors of four European capitals, who visited Kyiv, intend to continue supporting Ukrainian capital

KYIV. Jan 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Mayor of the capital Vitali Klitschko thanked the mayors of the four European capitals – members of the Pact of Free Cities, who came to Kyiv to confirm support and further assistance to the Ukrainian capital, his press service reported on Wednesday.

The mayors of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, Budapest, Gergely Karacsony, and Bratislava, Matúš Vallo, arrived in Kyiv, who established the Pact of Free Cities in 2019. On September 26 last year, Kyiv also joined the Pact.

"I thank my friends – European colleagues, whose cities have provided shelter to Ukrainians who were fleeing the war. Thank you for the help you have sent and are providing to Kyiv today," Klitschko stressed during a meeting with the mayors.

In turn, as noted in the press release, the mayors of the four European capitals stressed that they will continue to help Kyiv – in particular, with equipment to get through this difficult winter, and in the future restoration and recovery of the Ukrainian capital.

According to a press release, since the beginning of a full-scale war, four European capitals have not stopped helping Kyiv. During this time, the capital of Ukraine received 16 wagons of food, 400 heat guns and 10 generators from Prague. Budapest helped in the rehabilitation of Ukrainian children on Lake Balaton and Tata, handed over a powerful generator for the municipal enterprise Kyivteploenergo. Bratislava plans to transfer 25 city buses to the capital of Ukraine. Warsaw has become, in particular, a logistics center for the transfer of humanitarian aid to Kyiv from other European cities and countries – including 2,500 tonnes of food, hygiene products, medicines.

The mayors of Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, during their visit to Ukraine, will inspect the sites of Russian attacks on civilian objects in Kyiv, visit the city clinical hospital for war veterans, a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities, one of the capital’s heating points. And they will also visit Bucha mutilated by Russian barbarians.
