BRUSSELS. Oct 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The President of the European Council says that during the summit, EU leaders confirmed that Ukraine would remain a priority.
At a press conference on Friday in Brussels, which took place at the end of a two-day meeting of the European Council, Michel said: the first point I want to emphasize is the support that has been expressed for Ukraine. Ukraine is a priority for us, and will remain a priority, the President of the European Council said.
The President of the European Council confirmed that EU leaders remain committed to continuing to offer our financial support to Ukraine, which is in line with the discussion that took place yesterday on the review of the multi-year budget.
Michel noted that EU member states would also continue to provide military support to Ukraine on a bilateral basis.
We also discussed the issue of frozen assets – the discussion was very good and there was widespread desire for us to take decisive steps forward on this issue, he said.
In this regard, the President of the European Council said that the leaders instructed the High Representative and the Commission to make proposals for subsequent implementation, so that they have the opportunity to mobilize some of these assets, so that they have income to provide short-term support to Ukraine, and then long-term support for further reconstruction of Ukraine.
