Miller calls Russia's accusations against Ukraine of organizing pogroms in Makhachkala 'absurd'

KYIV. Oct 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Spokesman for the United States Department of State Matthew Miller called the Russian accusations against Ukraine of organizing anti-Semitic pogroms in Makhachkala “absurd,” he said during his briefing at the State Department on Monday.

“I saw their statements blaming Ukraine. This is absurd, of course,” he said.

Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the pogroms were allegedly the result of a “planned and carried out provocation from outside,” in which the “Kyiv regime” played a key role.

Later, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of organizing the pogroms.

It was previously reported that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry rejected the accusations of Russian officials.

“The Russian Foreign Ministry’s accusations against Ukraine of involvement in the events in Dagestan are an attempt to shift responsibility from a sore head to a healthy one,” Oleh Nikolenko, speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, said.
