By KYIV. Dec 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NATO’s highest Military Authority, the Military Committee, will hold meetings in Brussels on January 17 and 18, 2024 at the level of the chiefs of general staff of the North Atlantic Alliance countries, the organization’s headquarters said on Wednesday.
The meeting will be led by Chair of the Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer. The meeting will be attended by General Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), and General Philippe Lavigne, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT). The meeting participants will be joined by their Invitee counterpart from Sweden, according to a statement from NATO headquarters.
According to the document, the meeting of the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session (MCCS) will enable the Chiefs of Defence to meet and “discuss issues of strategic importance to the Alliance.”
This includes consideration of issues of the defense industry, military potential and operational planning. The chiefs of defense staff will also discuss the roadmap for adapting to current and future threats.
Other topics discussed by NATO military leaders include Integrated Air and Missile Defence in order to improve readiness, preparedness, and interoperability in peacetime, crisis, and times of conflict.
The Chiefs of Staff will provide further guidance on NATO’s military deterrence and defense priorities, focusing on key capability requirements ahead of decisions at the alliance’s July 2024 summit in Washington.
For the first time, the meeting participants will hold a meeting in the format of the NATO-Ukraine Council. They will discuss events in the country, the situation on the ground, and “NATO and Allied continued support to Ukraine.”
