By KYIV. Dec 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The absolute majority of Ukrainians, 97%, are confident that Ukraine will be able to repel the attack of the Russian Federation. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the sociological group Rating.
As of the end of 2022, more than 82% of respondents believe that things in Ukraine are going in the right direction, only 7% – in the wrong direction. The assessment of the direction of development of affairs as correct dominates in all regional distributions and age groups.
Two-thirds of respondents expect that the next 2023 will be better than the previous one. Some 12% believe that the year will be the same, 16% – worse. Compared to last year’s study, the indicators are more optimistic. Also, almost 90% look at 2023 with optimism, only 6% with pessimism.
Assessing the changes in various spheres over the past year, about half of the respondents noted improvements in the political situation, and about 40% indicated that their sense of confidence in the future had improved.
The assessment of their own financial situation and the country, although they have undergone negative changes over the year, however, the indicators are not worse than the level of 2018. Especially noticeable are negative trends in the assessments of economics and finance among the younger and middle generation.
Assessing the changes in certain areas, respondents rated the country’s defense capability above all (90% indicated improvement) and the international image of Ukraine (86% indicated improvement).
In the sphere of freedom of speech and democracy, half of the respondents did not feel any changes, 34% – believe that the situation has improved, 12% – has worsened. According to the condition of the roads, 42% noted that there were no changes, 24% saw an improvement, 28% saw a deterioration. The situation in the fight against corruption has not changed for 46%, improved for 22%, worsened for 17%. The quality of medical care and housing and communal services has not changed for almost half of the respondents, improved for 12% and 8%, respectively, worsened for 23% and 41%, respectively.
The respondents rated the situation with prices of basic goods and medicines the worst (it worsened for 94%), job opportunities (it worsened for 72%) and the quality of education (it worsened for 55%).
"In dynamics, negative trends are observed in assessing the condition of roads, the ability to find a job and the quality of education. Estimates of prices for basic goods and medicines have not changed over the year. The indices of the quality of housing and communal services, medical support, the fight against corruption, freedom of speech and democracy, and especially the international image have improved," the researchers summarize.
The survey was conducted on November 20-21, 2022 among the population of Ukraine aged 18 years and older in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as territories where there is no Ukrainian mobile communication at the time of the survey. The results are weighted using up-to-date data from the State Statistics Service. The sample is representative by age, gender and type of settlement. A sample consists of 1,000 respondents. The survey method is CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing – telephone interview using a computer) based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers. The error of representativeness of the study with a confidence probability of 0.95: no more than 3.1%.
