No radioactive contamination found by Ukrainian nuclear scientists in Makariv community after Russian occupation

KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Experts from the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety did not find any signs of radioactive contamination in the territory of Makariv community in Kyiv region after the Russian occupation.

"According to the results of a radiation inspection of Makariv territorial community, no signs of radioactive contamination were found at the facilities, in the premises and land plots that could had been used by the occupiers," the state center said on its website on Tuesday.

The inspection of the territorial community was conducted on November 8-11, 2022 with the help of the RanidSONNI mobile laboratory.

"The inspection was conducted with the aim of detecting radioactive contamination and radioactive materials that could be brought by the occupiers outside the exclusion zone and the zone of unconditional (compulsory) resettlement during the radiation security intrusion," it said.

The experts examined the educational institutions, public places, private houses, roads, streets, military and household equipment.

The inspection was held within the framework of the SURVEY project, which is aimed at detecting and reduction of the population exposure risks following its contacts with a source of radioactive contamination, as well as at alleviation of concern among the population due to contingency risks connected with the deployment of the occupation forces in the exclusion zone.

As reported, on October 24-27, 2022, specialists of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety conducted the same inspections in the territories of Ivankiv and Polissia communities. No signs of radioactive contamination were found there as well.
