By KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – There were no Ukrainian citizens on board the passenger plane that crashed in Nepal on Sunday, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said.
"According to the information of the Nepalese side, there were no Ukrainians on board the plane that crashed in western Nepal," Nikolenko tweeted.
A Yeti Airlines ATR 72-500 crashed on Sunday in Nepal while approaching the international airport in Pokhara. There were 72 people on board, including four crew members. The plane was flying from Kathmandu.
According to initial information, the cause of the crash was a technical malfunction of the aircraft. At the time of the disaster, the weather and visibility around the city of Pokhara was good.
Pokhara Airport is temporarily closed.
According to media reports, there were 15 foreigners on board the ATR 72 aircraft that crashed in Nepal. The remaining 53 people were Nepalese.
