Not all antennas of mobile operators equipped with autonomous power sources – YASNO

KYIV. Nov 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The electricity supplier YASNO notes the absence of autonomous power sources on many communication antennas of mobile operators.

"I see a lot of complaints and notice myself that when the power is turned off, mobile communication does not work well. I explain: by default, mobile operators do not switch off without electricity. The problem is that many antennas are connected to residential buildings, to networks of residential buildings. And when residential buildings or other objects are turned off, antennas are turned off, and communication is lost," Serhiy Kovalenko, CEO of the energy supplier YASNO, wrote on his Facebook.

According to him, not all antennas of mobile operators are equipped with an autonomous power source.

"They must have a battery or a generator for 3-4 or 6 hours, they must provide autonomous power to the antenna or tower, even if there is no electricity, but this is not everywhere. There is only one solution here, and it is up to the operators: they should provide autonomous power sources for their antennas, towers, servers, otherwise communication interruptions will continue," he stressed.

Kovalenko also noted that in Kyiv the number of districts with emergency unscheduled shutdowns has increased: Dnipro and Darnytsky districts have been added to Obolon, Vynohradar, Minsky residential area and Kurenivka.

As reported, lifecell notes that the duration of equipment operation during large-scale power outages depends on the ability to provide regular fuel supply. At the same time, it specified that one base station powered by the generator consumes 100 liters of fuel per day.

Kyivstar is working on alternative options for powering base stations during a power outage, now it is enough for 20% of the operator’s network in large cities during a long blackout.
