Orban's party presents resolution in Hungarian parliament against Ukraine's accession to EU

KYIV. Dec 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party has submitted a resolution in parliament calling on the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orban not to support the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, the EFE news agency reported on Wednesday.

“Ukraine has not fulfilled the objective conditions in order to start accession negotiations,” the document says.

In this situation, “it is impossible to make a responsible decision to start negotiations,” it says.

The document presented in the Hungarian parliament also calls for a “strategic debate” on the consequences of Ukraine’s possible accession to the EU.

The EFE agency notes that earlier Orban sent a letter to the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, asking him not to resolve this issue at the next EU summit scheduled for December 14-15.
