By KYIV. Dec 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking on Wednesday at the Verkhovna Rada with an address on the foundations of domestic and foreign policy, said that the unity of Ukrainians should be the same as among Ukrainian soldiers.
As the head of state emphasized, thanks to the unity of the Ukrainian people, Ukrainians had achieved what almost no one in the world believed in, except for the citizens of Ukraine themselves. "We are all in this hall, in Ukraine, among our people. Unity. We must cherish it, despite any personal emotions and interests. Unity is what allows us now to strengthen society, strengthen our state and change the negative trends of centuries of our history," Zelensky said.
He noted that the stronger the unity of Ukrainians, the sooner victory would come.
Also, according to him, everyone should be equal in this unity. "No one at the front will understand those who, having any political weight or power position, will try to return to the old life. To life before February 24. If someone tries to play against Ukraine’s independence – political, economic or spiritual independence – our state will respond instantly and harshly," the head of state said.
"There is no such gold in the world for crosses or anything else that could cover the moral rust from links with a terrorist state. And sorry if someone from Ukraine’s political class thinks that when he skis down the mountain, this motivates the soldiers to rise from the trenches and go on the offensive – this is a sign of madness, and there will be no such thing in politics," the president added.
Zelensky also asked all Ukrainians to "leave personal ambitions at home and work to protect the common home." "To work together with the state and in the way that is necessary to protect freedom and our people. When such a war is going on, there is no time for personal political guerrilla warfare somewhere here in the rear, in the media, or even more so in the capitals of the states that help us. Please take my words as seriously as possible. Ukraine is moving towards the victory that generations of our people dreamed of. We will have what we have not achieved before," he said.
"And this is possible due to the fact that for the first time in several centuries we have at the same time national unity, our own functioning state and the maximum unity of the world for the sake of supporting Ukraine. We will not let anyone roll this back to the old times. People will not let it happen. The world will not let it happen. Our unity must be as strong as our warriors," Zelensky concluded.
