Pentagon chief: Ukrainian forces ready for winter combat

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III, who arrived in Kyiv on a visit, believes that Ukrainian soldiers are ready for winter combat and have the necessary means for success.

“I think they [Ukrainian Forces] are prepared for combat in the winter, and certainly they did a great job last year,” Austin said a briefing in Kyiv Monday evening.

The minister added that the latest $100 million military aid package announced earlier by the United States, in particular, includes winter equipment.

“So yeah, they have the means that they’ll need to be successful in fighting in the wintertime. And I think I agree with President Zelenskyy – the right thing to do is continue to press the fight, take the fight to the enemy,” Austin stated.
