People returning even to houses without roofs in Kherson region – MP Kostenko

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In Kherson region, civilians are returning even to those houses in which there are no roofs left as a result of Russian shelling, said Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence (Holos faction).

"Taking part in the battles and coming to Kherson, I visited settlements, in particular in Posad-Pokrovsky (this village was just on the front line), where everything was destroyed – from houses to schools and administrative buildings. These are the consequences of the ‘Russian world.’ At the same time, people came out to meet us, who even returned to houses without roofs. They equip basements and dilapidated houses in order to overwinter, but we have not heard a word from them that the Ukrainian government is ‘bad.’ They didn’t say that someone broke it, that someone shot at them, that we didn’t protect them. People said that Mykolaiv saved their village – and it’s true," Kostenko said in an exclusive interview with Interfax–Ukraine.

In addition, he noted that the situation in Mykolaiv region is safer now than when the enemy was on the Right Bank, but at the same time "the enemy has more opportunities to shell Mykolaiv than other cities of Ukraine."

"For example, in Mykolaiv, even from the Left Bank, one can shoot S-300 missiles, which simply will not reach other settlements. In Mykolaiv, the threat is greater than in others, but certainly less than before the liberation. Therefore, those who have the opportunity to wait out somewhere should do so," the parliamentarian added.
