KYIV. May 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Pope Francis received 3.1% of support among Ukrainians in the rating of trust in the heads of churches, while his desire to end the war at any cost is supported by 9.1%, according to the results of an all-Ukrainian poll conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center commissioned by ZN.UA.
“On the eve of the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Vatican, it turned out that half of the respondents either do not know anything about the position of the Pope regarding the war in Ukraine and his attempts to reconcile the warring countries (36.2%), or it does not matter to them (14.1% of respondents),” the publication reports.
About 34% of Ukrainians negatively assess the Pope’s position regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war: 23.8% expressed resentment that Pope Francis equalizes Russians and Ukrainians, considering them equally “victims of the war,” and another 10.3% believe that the pontiff works in the interests of the Kremlin.
The study was conducted from April 28 to May 3 among 2,020 respondents aged 18 and over using the face-to-face method in the territories controlled by the government of Ukraine, where there are no hostilities. The theoretical margin of error does not exceed 2.3%.
